‘Coco’ Combines Old, New to Produce Fashionable Illustrations

January 10th, 2008 by Deej

shu-emura.jpg

After searching for nothing in particular online, I tripped over Coco and her killer work.  As an Illustrator and consultant to the fashion world, she mixes several techniques in her art. Coco leverages her use of painting, drawing and ceramics, by composing them together in Photoshop. “Living between Paris and London…” is one way Coco finds inspiration. Check her portfolio.

Less Traditional, More Colorful Wedding Dresses

January 9th, 2008 by Deej

capri_primary.jpg

The latest trend seems to be brides leaning away from the traditional white wedding dress, and opting for a more colorful and less cliche look. Now it’s not like no one here has worn a color wedding dress before. But the current shift to more color here could be attributed to common wedding practices around the globe. In Africa, brides wear tribal colors; In Morocco, it’s yellow; Japanese and Chinese brides wear red; black in Spain, and even lime green in Korea! The crimson dress shown above is by Maggie Sottero.

Better Headbands by Jennifer Ouellette

January 7th, 2008 by Deej

ouelette-headband.png

Designer Jennifer Ouellette takes a vintage appeal and incorporates the modern look. And she has apparentlypatented this headband design that leaves you feeling no pain. Shown above is the Sequin Norman Side Turban ($49) headband with a large bow detail on the side. I don’t think anyone will argue that Ouelette has refined the ‘headband’ by injecting unique design. Check out the rest of her designs at Barney’s.

Talk about a hot looking device. This is one of the smoothest and fashionable MP3 player designs I have seen yet. This was designed by Kitman Keung for Vivienne Tam’s VIP customers, and holds 4GB or about 2,000 songs. While it’s not available now, rumor is it will be soon, with a 18K gold Luxe Edition as well.

Look everyone, a rocking chair that actually looks hip! Made out of one fluid piece of fiberglass, and coated with a special high gloss urethane finish, this is sure to catch any guests attention. Designer Patrick Messier used a grid based on the Fibonacci sequence to create the smooth curves. And why is it called the ‘Mamma’ Rocking Chair? Because Messier created it for his partner Sophie when she was pregnant. For $6,000 at babygeared.

‘Cazals’ is Fresh Sound From Across Pond

January 3rd, 2008 by Deej

cazals-tcalss.png

The UK based Cazals are a treat for the ear. It’s just plain nice. French label Kitsuné, usually stuck on electronica, convinced them to record their debut album in Paris, due sometime this year. They’ve released a killer energizing single ‘To Cut a Long Story Short’ (video is on MTV2) that I must recommend you hear. Hear more of the Cazals + make new friends.

Even though I don’t wear women’s shoes, I still know a fly sole when I see one. This is probably the most creative pair of kicks I’ve ever seen come from a high fashion house. It’s Prada’s Floral Heeled Peep Toe, with a heel that doubles as a faux flower. A cool $590 at Neiman Marcus.

Headhoods Let You Change Your Face

January 3rd, 2008 by Deej

head-hood.png

This is an obviously simple but killer idea. Print faces on the side of a hood, make Headhoods. Brilliant. All of the heads are printed on American Apparel sweatshirts with your choice of zip-up, a fitted pullover, or sleeveless. My only complaint is the selection is pretty limited, but will hopefully grow. All are $60 here.
